The gospels authors go out of their way to show that Jesus was an innocent man that was unjustly condemned. Jesus' condemnation was wrong, but it was part of God's plan so that he might save sinners through the sacrificial death of his son. Jesus was declared guilty so that all who trust in him might be declared 'Not Guilty!' before God.
